Sometimes Intuition Sounds Like Your Own Thoughts

A few days ago, I was driving to my daughter's house to spend time with my great-grandson.

I've made that drive more times than I can count. Like most of us, I have a route I almost always take. It's familiar. It's easy. I could probably drive it without thinking.

But that day, something happened.

There wasn't a booming voice
.There wasn't a dramatic feeling.
There wasn't some mystical experience.

I simply had a thought.

"Maybe I should go the other way today."

That's it.

It was so ordinary that I almost ignored it.

Have you ever had one of those moments?

A random thought pops into your mind. A tiny nudge. An idea that seems to come from nowhere.
Most of us dismiss those thoughts almost immediately.

"That's silly."
"Why would I do that?"
"I'm probably just imagining things."

But this time, I listened.

I turned onto a different road.

A few minutes later, I discovered why.

The main street through town was completely blocked because of a carnival. Had I taken my usual route, I would have been sitting in traffic, frustrated and wishing I had gone another way.
Instead, I drove right around it.

Now, was that a miracle?

Maybe.
Maybe not.

What matters is this:
I listened to a quiet thought that turned out to be helpful.

Intuition Isn't Always Dramatic

I think many people expect intuition to arrive with flashing lights and angelic music.

They expect certainty.
They expect a loud inner voice saying,
"This is the right answer!"

But that's rarely how it works for me.

Most of the time, intuition feels...
ordinary.

It sounds like one of my own thoughts.
It feels almost like my imagination.

And because it feels so ordinary, it's easy to dismiss.

That's why so many people say,
"I don't have intuition."

I don't think that's true.
I think they simply don't recognize it.

The Biggest Obstacle Isn't Intuition
It's trust.

People tell me all the time,
"I can't read tarot because I don't know the right meaning."
Or...
"I'm afraid I'll get it wrong."

But here's something I want you to hear.

The biggest obstacle isn't learning the cards.
It's believing that there's only one correct answer.

When we believe that, we stop listening to ourselves.

Instead of observing the card...
Instead of noticing what catches our eye...
Instead of allowing a story to unfold...

We start searching our memory for the "correct" definition.

That takes us away from our intuition.

What If Your Imagination Isn't Getting in the Way?

This is one of the biggest lessons I've learned.

The imagination isn't the enemy.
It's often the doorway
.
When you look at a tarot card and begin imagining what's happening...

Who is this person?
Where are they going?
What happened just before this moment?
What happens next?

You're not doing it wrong.
You're opening the door.

The story gives your intuition somewhere to speak.

That's why I teach tarot through storytelling first.

Before memorizing keywords.
Before studying traditional meanings.
Before worrying about getting everything exactly right.

Because stories are something you've understood your entire life.

And once the story comes alive...
The meanings begin to grow naturally

Learning to Trust Yourself

Looking back, I could have ignored that little thought while I was driving.

Nothing forced me to change directions.

There was no proof.
Just a quiet nudge.
I'm so glad I listened.

Not because I avoided traffic.

But because every time we honor those small moments, we build trust in ourselves.

That's what intuition really is.

Not perfection.
Not fortune-telling.
Not having every answer.

It's learning to recognize those gentle whispers that have probably been there all along.

A Gentle Invitation

If you've ever felt like you aren't intuitive...
Or that you're "bad" at tarot...
I want you to consider a different possibility.

Maybe you aren't missing intuition.
Maybe you've simply been taught not to trust it.
And that's something we can change.

One story at a time.
One card at a time.
One quiet thought at a time.

Know that I love you.
I really, really do love you.

💜 If this way of thinking about tarot speaks to you, I'd love to have you join me in my upcoming Confident Tarot for Beginners class.
Together, we'll learn to read the cards by observing, imagining, and trusting the stories that naturally unfold—before we ever worry about memorizing meanings. You might discover that you've been more intuitive than you ever realized.
